Royalty praises Kent’s “impressive” road safety work

His Royal Highness, Prince Michael of Kent praised the efforts being made to improve road safety in Kent when he made a pit stop in the county.

Hosted at Brands Hatch, His Royal Highness heard first-hand about campaigns in Kent and Medway aimed at educating road users, including “Biker Down” aimed at motorcyclists, and “Driving Business Safely” for those who drive as part of their business. Both campaigns received the Prince Michael of Kent International Road Safety Award last year.

Kent County Council, Medway Council, Kent Fire & Rescue Service, Kent Police and the Kent & Medway Safety Camera Partnership were all in attendance.

His Royal Highness Prince Michael said: “I was very impressed with all the hard work that is being carried out in Kent and Medway. It is shining example of what can be achieved through good partnership working and dedication. I had a very informative day.”

Speaking on behalf of all the partners, John Burr, Director of Kent Highways and Transportation, said:
“To have our road safety work praised by Royalty is a true honour. We will all continue to work closely together, to educate road users and try to save as many lives as we possibly can on Kent’s roads.”

Prince Michael took to the tarmac himself for a lap of the Brands Hatch course in Caterham Jaguar car.

Continuing the Kentish theme, Prince Michael also sampled the best produce the county has to offer during a lunch, specially designed and prepared by Produced in Kent’s Young Chef of the Year 2012, 15 year-old Eden Allsworth of Canterbury.

The lunch was prepared with fresh Kentish produce from: The Royal School for the Deaf, Margate; Monkshill Farm, Faversham and Quex Barn, Birchington (Winner of Taste of Kent Award – Kent Local Food Retailer of the Year 2013). Apple juice from Little Stour Orchard, Margate (Best Kent Juice Producer in the Taste of Kent Awards), cider and award winning Ortega Wine from Biddenden Vineyards, Ashford.
Front of house staff were provided by East Kent College.
