Red Ribbon Award for Romney Marsh Wools

Romney Marsh Wools has been awarded “Best in Class Entrepeneur 2012” at the Red Ribbon Awards by Family Business Place.

Our family farm spans across part of the Romney Marsh and the adjacent escarpment of Aldington and Bonnington in Kent. The Romney Sheep has been in the family for over 130 years and our current numbers are circa 1,000 ewes lambing in the traditional months of March and April.

As Romney wool is considered to be one of the most versatile fleeces my husband and I decided to look for areas of diversification within this sphere, and we set up an exciting diversification project in 2008 to have our fleeces transformed.
We take our fleeces to small UK weavers, who hand processes, then spin and weaves our yarn into beautiful knee rugs and throws which have a unique quality attributable to the Romney Sheep. We also have our own brand of Wool Fat Soap and Hand and body lotion made from the lanolin.

In 2011 I gave up my full time job as a National Account Manager working on Tesco account for Premier Foods and fully focused my attention onto our Romney Marsh Wools business.  We launched our online shop in Jan 2012 and have around 30 stockists within Kent and Sussex, and we have been very pro-active in marketing by going to events and fairs such as Wealden Times, Country Living and Spirit of Christmas Fair.  In April of this year we launched our new office and display room which catapulted us into our professional business operation.

We were thrilled to have been nominated and win at the FB Red Ribbon Awards, as a small business the awards means a huge amount to us and we would be grateful if you would be able to share our information with your readers.  To view our range please visit www.romneymarshwools.co.uk if you have any questions please contact me direct.
