A new craft distillery is due to open its doors at Chatham Maritime this summer. Copper Rivet Distillery will produce a range of premium spirits for both the UK and international market.
It is the first business of its kind in the Kent region, and one of just a few in the country responsible for the whole distillation process from grain to glass.
The team behind Copper Rivet Distillery will source everything they can from Kent including local elderflower for their gin botanicals, the grains used in their spirits from Burden Bros from Isle of Sheppey, and the spirit stills wrought and built by craftsmen in Chatham.
The men behind the business are Bob Russell, his sons Matthew and Stephen, master distiller Abhishek Banik, and site manager Antony Wallis.
The core product range will include Masthouse – a single malt whisky, Dockyard Gin, Vela Vodka, and Son of a Gun – a special spirit ideal for cocktail mixology.
A preview tour and tasting session was held at the distillery with catering provided by The Swan, West Malling for close family, friends and local businesses in early May. The Copper Rivet Distillery will also be open to visitors from early June, who can tour the Victorian pump house to see the distillation process in action, experiment with flavour profiling in the laboratory and sample the premium Kentish craft spirits for themselves.
