Local Tea Company Founder in UK First

Tea Sommelier

Louisa receiving her Tea Sommelier Certificate from International Tea Educator, Jane Pettigrew

Debonair Tea Company of Hythe, Kent, are in celebratory mode following co-founder Louisa’s success in becoming the first person to receive Tea Sommelier accreditation from the UK Tea Academy.

Despite our reputation as a country of tea drinkers, it wasn’t until the end of 2015 that the UK Tea Academy, the only body in the UK to offer a professional tea certification programme, was established.

The April course, run under the directorship of international tea educator Jane Pettigrew, required Louisa to complete a practical, oral and written exam – which she passed with an amazing 96%!

Louisa, who was presented with her certificate by Jane over the May bank holiday weekend, said:

Debonair Teas“I have been a life-long tea drinker and the ultimate tea geek since I decided to set up Debonair Tea Company a few years ago. However, I felt it was important to gain professional certification in order to give our customers the utmost confidence in our knowledge and product sourcing.

“Over the next few months, we will be launching a series of pop-up tea workshops in a number of venues across Kent which are already serving our tea to give everyone a chance to learn much, much more about the nation’s favourite drink!”
