Produced in Kent were delighted to attend the 12th Living Land event at the Kent Showground on Wednesday 16th May 2015.
The Living Land is a free, one day event offered to Kent school children in years 3 and 4 aimed at educating young children in the areas of farming, agriculture, countryside and healthy eating within the beautiful landscape of the Kent Showground, home to the Kent County Show.
The Living Land is a well-established event and hugely popular, with around 2,800 children attending each year. The timetable of activities includes the opportunity to see and touch farm animals, taste local produce, see dancing sheep at the “Sheep Show”, Birds of Prey and many other displays and demonstrations. Most of the activities are interactive, with a wealth of organisations on hand to share their knowledge with the children and can easily be linked to the school curriculum.
T
his year we joined forces with Foodari, who supply fresh fruit and vegetables to many Kent schools, to show the youngsters what we grow and where in Kent we grow it !

Using a map of Kent and some happy fruit & veg characters, we spent the day talking about amazing produce from the Garden of England.
There was also a wall of fruit & veg facts to keep them entertained, which proved popular with a lot of the adults too!
You can download the map and fact sheets by clicking here and scrolling down the page to the ‘Education’ section.

The educational experience is invaluable and taking pupils away from the normal classroom environment, enhances the ability to learn. We were pleased to see several other Produced in Kent members there, donating their time to help educate the next generation. Well done to Chegworth Valley, Romney Marsh Wools, Biddenden Vineyards, GB Lister & Kent Life.
