Grow, Eat, Share will help people learn to grow and cook healthy, fresh food.
Despite seeming like an affluent town, Tunbridge Wells has a large number of families and individuals living in poverty, struggling to pay bills and put food on the table. These people could benefit hugely from knowing how to grow and cook healthy food, Nourish Community Foodbank in Tunbridge Wells had 904 referrals in the first half of 2015 alone. Grow, Eat, Share offers a sustainable solution to the growing problems of food bank use and health problems.
Families and individuals will attend workshop days and learn the skills needed to grow and cook their own fresh, seasonal, healthy food on a budget. The first half of the workshop will involve hands on cookery workshops making tasty, healthy food using fruit, vegetables and herbs that are easy to grow in Kent. During the second half, trainees will use Sherwood Community Herb Garden to learn how to grow fruit, vegetables and herbs. The workshops will be lead by Kent High Weald Partnership including a Chelsea Flower Show Gold Award Winning Allotment growing expert. Participants will learn to grow some of the ingredients they used in the cookery workshop and will have use of the Community Herb Garden to continue their growing after the training is completed.
