Harvest time at Pure Kent

Pure KentIt’s August, so that must mean the combine harvester is hard at work at Eckley Farms, harvesting oilseed rape and wheat for their Pure Kent Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil and their Highly Commended Wholemeal Flour. Thanks to investment in a new flour mill, Guy and Claire Eckley are looking forward to bringing you not only Wholemeal Flour, but other varieties too. Flour is now stoneground, generally thought to make better tasting bread, with more of the nutrients still intact. The mill also has a built in seive, so if wholemeal’s not your thing, Claire is working on an alternative.

Claire Eckley said “Only a handful of farmers mill their own wheat in the UK. We are looking forward to offering a range of local flours, without dough improvers, or preservatives. Lovely local loaves are at last a possibility in Kent!”

Pure Kent flour is used by a number of craft bakers and chefs in West Kent including Produced in Kent members Hemings Bakehouse, and Kent in Crepe.
