Since opening its doors in 2009, our award-winning farm shop has been unique in supporting the education of our college students, along with the produce local businesses in the Hadlow and wider Kent area. The College takes a 360 degree approach to the running of the farm shop, ensuring that our working farms, which comprise Blackmans Dairy, Faulkners Farm and Princess Christian’s Farm, provide a perfect learning environment for all of our students and enables them to see how their work effects the consumer.
Our farms are a vital part of to the whole student experience within agriculture, with students taking part in morning and afternoon milking, feeding and checking on the calves and sheep and being responsible for yard work. During the lambing season, students will prepare the ewes for lambing and work with the lecturers and farm staff on practical lambing. They are also involved in the vaccinations and bedding up of the animals to give them a rounded experience of life on a modern day farm. Within the Farm Shop, students gain valuable work experience and develop their customer service skills by dealing with enquiries and maintaining accurate stock records.
This makes us unique in being able to play a major role in the future of agriculture in the UK. We also aim to promote small and medium sized businesses, and encourage local business by engaging local suppliers wherever possible. We then ask these local suppliers to use local growers and producers, providing the best seasonal and local produce available for your dining experience.
