Gusbourne’s Blanc de Blancs 2012 has been rated as the top sparkling wine of 2016 by Decanter Magazine*.
Hailing from Appledore in Kent, this first-class sparkling wine is described as having “lots of complexity on the nose and palate: white fruit intensity in a powerful, focused style” and “thrillingly zesty.”
This year Decanter looked for memorable wines with “wow factor” to include in its 75 stellar buys of 2016. Wine experts, including the Decanter in-house team, Decanter World Wine Awards Regional Chair people and regular contributors to the magazine, each put forward five bottles they enjoyed the most over the last year.
195 nominated wines came from all over the world – from as far as Japan and Canada, as well as here in England. Amongst the tasters were two Masters of Wine (there are only 354 worldwide); Sarah Jane Evans MW and Andy Howard MW. Along with Decanter tastings director Christelle Guibert, they chose the top 75 wines they found to be truly enjoyable and memorable, with over 97% scoring over 90 points.
Gusbourne was voted the best sparkling wine, beating French Champagne – two vintage and one highly-priced non-vintage Champagne.
Winemaker at Gusbourne, Charlie Holland, said “We are delighted Gusbourne has been championed by these world-class wine experts. It’s going down well overseas too, with transatlantic exports increasing in popularity as well as those to Denmark, France, Austria, Switzerland and the UAE. At home we are proud to be served in top Michelin starred restaurants, such as The Fat Duck and Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons, as well as at a banquet in Buckingham Palace just last month.”
Wines from this tasting are mostly available from independent merchants, and stockists of Gusbourne Blanc de Blancs 2012 include Berry Brothers and Rudd, Selfridges, Lea & Sandeman or buy direct from the winery at www.gusbourne.com.
