East Coast Pale Ale launched by Shepherd Neame

Hog Island East Coast Pale Ale CROPNo.18 Yard Brewhouse, Shepherd Neame’s experimental range of limited edition ales, has launched its first American-style beer.Hog Island East Coast Pale Ale (4.8% abv) derives its name from an area of the Faversham-based brewery site that was previously a small island in the town’s creek, which has become landlocked over the history of Britain’s oldest brewery.

Conceived in Shepherd Neame’s pilot brewery, beers in the No.18 Yard Brewhouse collection have already featured a range of unusual ingredients, such as rare hops, chocolate, chilli and mulling spices. This latest brew eschews Shepherd Neame’s tradition for using Kentish hops, by opting for some of the most in-vogue hops from across the pond: Boadicea, Amarillo and Cascade. These have been combined with pale ale and crystal malts to create a deep golden beer boasting citrus, pine and fruit aromas melded with light caramel notes and a robust bitterness.

Head brewer Richard Frost said: “Hog Island is a really exciting addition to the No.18 Yard Brewhouse collection. It is a refreshing, zesty beer which retains the malty character of the typical East Coast pale ale.”

Hog Island East Coast Pale Ale will be available on draught nationwide from March 1 for one month.
