Silver Gilt Award for Quex Gardens

Quex Gardens made a successful debut at the Kent County Show winning a Silver Gilt Medal for their entry in the Garden Landscapes Category.

Drawing inspiration from over 500 years of gardening at Quex the display showcased old gardening equipment such as hoes, scythes, potato forks and a heritage tomato grader set against a backdrop of tropical, ornamental and edible plants.  Head Gardener, Sue Harris, said ‘we wanted to bring a slice of Quex Gardens to the show.  There are seven acres at Quex including formal parkland, a woodland walk and a walled kitchen garden. There is certainly more to us than people expect’.

The display generated a huge amount of interest from visitors to the County Show where they were entertained with stories of 500 years of change to the gardens, top tips on plant care and what’s next for Quex Gardens.

Head Gardener, Sue said ‘Winning the Silver Gilt was a shock, none of this would have been possible without the hard work of our volunteers.  They spent six weeks getting plants ready and restoring the old tools so they looked their best for the show.  I am proud of all their efforts and they have told me that next year we are ‘going for gold’.
