Fudge Kitchen announces their annual charity as The Lily Foundation, on its 10th anniversary year of supporting research into and families affected by Mitochondrial Disease …
Powered by Peanut Butter fudge, Retail Operations Manager Patch Hyde is to run the 2017 London Marathon on 23rd April to raise money for the foundation …
In ‘sore-foot-solidarity’, Fudge Kitchen shops are donating £1 from every box of fudge sold on 22nd – 23rd April weekend to The Lily Foundation …
Every year, Fudge Kitchen selects a charity to support over the ensuing 12 months, through fund-raising, sporting craziness, awareness building and donations from dedicated sales. It has seen Fudge Kitchen staff pedaling across India to raise £1,185 to replace slum housing, cycling from London to Paris and across Cambodia and Vietnam, raising over £5,400 for Breast Cancer Now and now, without even the aid of wheels, Retail Operations Manager
cum stand-up comedian, Patch Hyde, is taking on that bunion-busting behemoth, the London Marathon, in aid of The Lily Foundation.
Fudge Kitchen-Lily Foundation weekend …
Throughout the weekend of the London Marathon, all seven Fudge Kitchen shops in Windsor, York, Cambridge, Oxford, Bath, Edinburgh and Canterbury will be supporting both Patch’s supreme effort and those of the Lily Foundation in raising awareness and funds for research into Mitochondrial Disease and in supporting families and sufferers. £1 from every box of creamy, fresh whipping cream fudge (dairy free varieties also available) sold on 22nd and 23rd April 2017 will be donated to the Foundation. With over 20 unique flavours to choose from, all hand made daily in front of your eyes, using an original 1800s recipe and authentic techniques, everyone’s a winner. But possibly not Patch …“I’m trying desperately to avoid drinking, failing a bit and then realising that I can run quite well
on a hangover.”
Introducing our Marathon Man …
Nevertheless, he is looking for a marathon personal best time of 3 hours 20 minutes. Patch (pictured right) started working for Fudge Kitchen as a Saturday boy at the age of 15. With diversions for university and a simultaneous stand-up career, including current stints MC-ing at the Comedy Museum in London, he has kept the Fudge Faith for twenty years, even to the point of having ‘fudge’ tattoo-ed across his torso.
Much of his week is spent touring the seven UK wide Fudge Kitchen shops, so his marathon training has taken him across terrain from the urban flats of London to the nutcracker-buttock-inducing inclines of Edinburgh’s Arthur’s Seat. He’s lost two toenails, clocked up 170 miles in March alone, worn out two pairs of very smelly trainers … and all powered by the pure, natural fuel of hand made Fudge Kitchen fudge.
Peanut Butter fudge, specifically.

The Lily Foundation and Mitochondrial Disease …
The Lily Foundation was founded in memory of Lily Merritt (pictured right), who died aged just 8 months from Mitochondrial Disease. Set up in 2007 by her uncle, BBC Football Commentator Jonathan Pearce and her parents, the charity is now celebrating 10 years! The Lily Foundation’s main aim is to fund research to improve diagnosis, increase treatment options and ultimately find a cure! They work tirelessly to raise awareness both in the general public and medical community and support families living with the challenges of this tragic disease that affects 10 million people in the UK.
“Although a small charity we have huge achievements to date,” said Michelle Moore, fundraising coordinator at The Lily Foundation, “and will continue our work with the help of our fantastic supporters like Patch!”
Mitochondrial Disease is a genetic condition that prevents cells in the body from producing enough energy for the body to survive. It can affect any part of the body, for example the heart, brain, muscles, eyes, hearing, stomach or kidneys. This debilitating disease causes devastating symptoms including poor growth, muscle weakness and pain, seizures, vision and/or hearing loss, gastrointestinal issues, learning disabilities and organ failure.
