2017 is the “YEAR OF THE ARONIA BERRY” IN THE UK.
We grow ARONIA BERRIES in North Kent, this is one of 5 commercial plantations around the UK. The crop is now growing successfully in England, Scotland and Wales.
Our harvest is very late in the season, usually mid September, and brings a new, fresh and versatile ENGLISH fruit to the UK winter berry market.
Over the next few years the public awareness of the ARONIA BERRY in the UK will increase and we are keen to promote this unknown fruit.
Aronia Berries are not really a punnet fruit (for eating) as they can be tart and dry on the palate, they are however a great cooking ingredient and an exciting accompaniment for many foods. They have a strong and stable colour,(very high in anthocyanins) vitamin C, polyphenols, flavanoids, antioxidants and a unique taste. Examples for chefs include; as a sauce for game and meats, as a compote for desserts, as a jus, as a vinegar and as an additional flavour in smoothies, pickles, yogurts, jams and cocktails. For bakers they can be used in breads, cakes, flap jacks, energy bars and granolas.
We use our berries for making our TickleBerries 100% Aronia berry juice, (SALSA accredited) and for our semi-dried berries. We also sell frozen berries throughout the year.
Our request to you for 2017 is for you to introduce these amazing berries to your customers and friends and to raise awareness of a new ENGLISH GROWN BERRY FRUIT for the years ahead (especially as imported fruits are becoming more expensive).
