The Cheerfull Gold juice that won the triple was from our own orchard, ( we are the largest growers of it in the country, but only have 3 acres) and we planted it because of its exceptional flavour. Its the first new apple bred in England for a long time, as it was bred by John Breach at Staplehurst, by crossing a Cox with Golden Delicious. The juice has the flavour similar to Cox but is more intense with a delicious balance of sweetness and acidity.. This is the second triple gold we have won. Our Cox & Bramley won in 2009.
The Jonagold that won 2 stars came from our trees as well, where we were able to leave the fruit to ripen properly on the tree, before picking and pressing it straight away.
This brings our tally of national & regional awards to 45, which I think is a record for a British juice producer.
