And so to Autumn

As the leaves start to fall and the night draw in we continue to have a wide selection of apples and pears.

Our cooking apples are perfect for that pie or pudding, one of the largest apples available (apart from the well known Bramley) is Peasgood Nonsuch,

Cooks to a sweet puree, and makes an excellent baked apple.

The fruit was exhibited in 1872 at the Royal Horticultural Society in London organised by Thomas Laxton, where it one a First Class Certificate. The apple can also be eaten fresh and is said to have a brisk flavour.

Medlars are now available in the shop and will be for the next couple of weeks.

It was used by the Victorians as an after dinner delicacy with cheese and to aid digestion. Medlars are inedible until they start to decay

Look forward to seeing you in our shop – we are taking orders for ‘C’ gift boxes!
