US DEAL SEALS VINEYARD’S GROWTH

Hush_Heath_Logo_HIGH_RESHush Heath Estate to export to world’s largest wine market

Successful negotiations at international trade fairs this year, and an increase in press coverage of English Wine in the United States has resulted in Hush Heath Estate signing a distribution deal to sell its wines and ciders through Valentine Wines in America.  The agreement marks an important development for the Staplehurst winery which will be sending its signature sparkling Balfour Brut Rosé and Traditional Method Jake’s Orchard ciders across the Atlantic this summer.

Hush Heath producer Richard Balfour-Lynn said: “America has just overtaken France as the world’s largest consumer of wine so clearly we are pleased to be entering this market. It represents a huge opportunity for the business and elevates Hush Heath Estate to a new standing in the wine industry. To win such international support indicates that we are not solely dependent on our home market championing local produce. As such, it is great testimony to the quality of wines we are producing.”

With America joining Hong Kong as an important market for Hush Heath Estate, Kent buyers and businesses are also expressing their appreciation for the quality wine and cider produced on their doorstep.  Within a year of launching vineyard and winery tours, and opening a cellar door for sales and tastings, Hush Heath Estate has increased its opening hours from four to seven days a week and has recruited more staff. Hush Heath Estate wines and ciders can also now be found in a number of high quality restaurants locally.

“The enthusiastic response we have had to our wines truly reflects what English, and Kentish, vineyards can achieve.  We set out to produce Sparkling Rosé that we believed could rival the best Champagnes. I am delighted that we’ve succeeded and most importantly our customers agree,” said Richard Balfour-Lynn.

“We have expanded the operation at the winery; launching walks and picnic packages and hosting dining and musical events. Simple but effective ways to enhance the enjoyment of wine and be actively involved with the community.”

Looking to the future of the business, Hush Heath Estate is set to increase production and plant new vineyards to keep up with demand.  The Estate has just launched its first still red wine of which only 2000 bottles were made, a Pinot Noir from 2013 which is now available at the cellar door, and will expand with new ventures in Kent and London later this year.
