Goddard’s pies cook up a storm and win Gold at National Pie Awards

Goddard’s Pies are excited to announce they have won a Gold Award at the prestigious 6th annual British Pie Awards this year. Their Steak & Ale pie – made from succulent, lean British chuck steak, marinated in ale, which is then slow cooked with fresh mushrooms and onions in a rich gravy – was awarded Gold in the ‘Football Pie’ category.

The event was organised and hosted by the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association. 825 British Pie Awardspies – all created by professional piemakers and butchers – were entered in to 19 categories at the event. Over 100 judges (including celebrity food chefs and experts) scoffed and scored the pies on a range of criteria including appearance, and texture and taste of both pastry and filling.

Sean Horton, who co-owns the business with Jeff and Kane Goddard says: “We beat off some very stiff competition in the Football Pie category and are thrilled that our hard work, skill and passion for creating delicious pies has been recognised.

“Goddard’s is a family run and owned business with roots that go back to 1890. Just as they were when we started out, all our pies are still handmade, using only British ingredients, and are perfect for catering businesses and wholesalers who want to offer their customers that authentic taste experience.

“To receive this Gold Award shows that our pies are truly in the Premier League and this award goes along way reinforce our belief that we make truly outstanding British pies.”

This isn’t the first time that Goddard’s Pies excellence has been recognised – in 2011 they won Bronze for their minced beef pie in the Savoury Pie (hot) category.
